Canned

This past Saturday I fired someone for the first time ever. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. And just so we're straight this person had it coming, and I'm pretty sure he wanted to get fired so that he could collect unemployment. I've been wanting this guy to go away for about a year now, and I'm glad he's finally out of our sight.

This wasn't a, "We're firing you so we can take more to our bottom line" kind of firing. It was a "You don't do shit while you're here and you're an asshole to everyone" kind of thing.

Brad Dirt

I went to get my hair cut yesterday at my usual spot. While I was there I asked the barber to trim the edges of my beard. Instead of trimming up the 5 or so outlying hairs that I had in mind, he shaved off half of my beard. It looks horrible. Bordering on the edges of white-trash. Jill told me it doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look good either, and we decided I'd just deal with it until it grows back. I was telling someone at work about my ordeal and he told me I look like "a damn fool." I agree. (note: picture taken before the hair cut)

No Bluff

I'll bet you that at any given moment I could turn on the TV and find a poker tournament and a story about Anna Nicole somewhere on one of the channels. Neither of which I have any interest in watching. I can think of a million better things that should be on TV.

Root, root, root

Baseball is back and I of course was in attendance for the Cubs home opener. I had good tickets this year too. Just a few rows behind the Cubs dugout. If it wasn't for the weather I would have tried to go to today's game, but the game has actaully been called off since its so cold and rainy outside. Just like last year though I'm going to try and go to as many games as possible. I'll set a goal of 14, which is 1 more than last year.

On an unrelated note, last night I had a dream I was going to be in a movie with Vincent Chase and somewhere in there Old Style was being drank.

Good To Be The King

Tonight I got to see the legendary B.B. King play the blues. This man has been near the top of my list for some time now and I finally got around to seeing him. Here is my review.

First, lets start with the opening act Kyle Riabko. I was not impressed with this guy. His stuff was unoriginal, and he didn't show very much talent. I had no idea who he was till he played, "What did I get myself into" which is, at best, a mildly entertaining song. His skills on the guitar matched those of someone who first learned to play a year ago. In one word, "Booo."

I was happy to see B.B. himself when he came on stage. The show was actually a lot of talking and story telling and not as much music as I had assumed. Granted, the man is 81 years old and suffering from diabetes so I didn't expect him to wail away for 2 straight hours. When he did play and sing it was great though. He is a legend for a reason.

As for the venue. I hate the House of Blues. Its expensive, hoky, and jam-packed. The amount of people they cram in there is ridiculous and the whole place is standing room only. Some guy near me kept yelling, "B.B. make it plain/plane!" Whatever that means. Oh, and a beer is $6.50 and a jagerbomb $9.25. I hope I never have to go back. Thankfully they don't usually have acts I like. B.B. King is actually the only blues man I've seen booked at the House of Blues. Makes a lot of sense I know.

Regardless of any negativity of the show, B.B. King is a living legend and I would have been happy to attend the show if all he did was make motorboat sounds in the mic.

By Popular Demand of Two

I read on the internet that "based on a 2007 survey adminestered at five local shopping malls, beards are 'pretty awesome."
